Spain Seawater Desalination Project | 1000 m³/day Containerized SWRO System
QT:2026-03-11

Project Overview

Water scarcity is an increasing challenge in many coastal regions of southern Europe. Seasonal droughts and growing tourism have significantly increased water demand, making seawater desalination projects an important solution for sustainable water supply.

This desalination plant in Spain was developed to provide a reliable freshwater source for coastal use. The project adopts a containerized seawater RO desalination system, combining proven SWRO technology with modular engineering to enable fast installation, efficient operation, and simplified logistics.

Designed as a compact seawater desalination solution, the system delivers stable freshwater production while minimizing civil construction and installation time.

Project Challenges

The project required a desalination system capable of addressing several practical constraints.

The installation site had restricted space and limited infrastructure. Conventional desalination plants would require significant civil construction and longer implementation time.

The project schedule required a system that could be transported, installed, and commissioned quickly.

A containerized desalination system was selected to meet these requirements, providing a flexible and efficient solution.

Dual-Container Expandable Design

The plant is based on a fully integrated seawater RO system designed for stable operation under marine conditions.

A key feature of this containerized seawater RO desalination system is its innovative dual-container expandable structure.

The desalination plant is delivered in two standard shipping containers, allowing easy transportation using conventional logistics.

After installation on site:

  • The side walls of the containers are removed

  • The containers are positioned side by side

  • The interior spaces are combined into one integrated operational area

This design creates a significantly larger working space inside the plant.

The expanded layout improves equipment accessibility, allowing technicians to easily reach pumps, membranes, and pipelines for inspection and maintenance.

It also improves operator safety and working conditions, while maintaining the benefits of standard container transport.

This approach combines the logistical advantages of containerized desalination systems with the operational practicality of a traditional equipment room.

Advantages for the Europe Desalination Market

Containerized desalination plants are increasingly used in the Europe desalination market because they offer several advantages:

  • rapid deployment with minimal civil works

  • efficient transportation using standard containers

  • modular expansion for future capacity growth

  • flexible installation in coastal environments

These features make containerized seawater RO desalination systems particularly suitable for municipalities, islands, and infrastructure projects.

Applications

This type of modular desalination plant is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

  • island water supply

  • coastal municipalities

  • tourism resorts/Hotels

  • offshore facilities

  • industrial coastal plants
